The Athletic's resident renowned Liverpool team correspondent James Pearce, exclusively reported on Thursday that Inter Milan and Liverpool have reached an agreement over the transfer of England international midfielder Curtis Jones.

According to Pearce, despite the new Premier League season is kicking off this weekend, Liverpool have agreed to sell Jones, who has been heavily pursued throughout the pre-season, to Inter Milan.

I Nerazzurri will pay Liverpool a transfer fee of £30 million for Jones, plus up to £5 million in performance-related bonuses. Liverpool have already granted Jones permission to fly to Milan for a medical.

Meanwhile, Pearce added that after selling Jones to the Serie A champions, the Reds have no plans to strengthen their midfield position this summer.

Once the transfer is completed, it will mean that for the first time in Liverpool's first-team history, that there will be no homegrown players in their current squad.

Furthermore, according to renowned independent team corespondent David Lynch, Liverpool were in no hurry to extend Jones' contract, which was originally set to expire in the summer of 2027, leading the player to consider leaving.

Despite receiving ample playing time under former head coach Arne Slot last season, Jones was unhappy about being frequently asked to temporarily play as a defender.

In addition, his desire to become the new vice-captain also allegedly angered his teammates and coaching staff due to attitude issues.

Lynch revealed that during the pre-season friendly against Wrexham, Dominik Szoboszlai, who was the acting captain that day, handed the captain's armband to Jones when he was substituted off, but Jones seemed dismissive and began complaining without reason.

This incident ultimately led to his teammate, Greek international left wing-back Kostas Tsimikas, becoming impatient and angrily throwing the captain's armband directly onto the grass.

Although the situation calmed down after Ryan Gravenberch picked up the captain's armband, Jones continued to argue with Szoboszlai after the match, damaging the team's image.

Although Szoboszlai later confirmed that the matter was resolved and the two had reconciled, and that the captain's armband was handed over normally in subsequent friendlies, new manager Andoni Iraola, who emphasizes team unity, took the incident to heart and ultimately decided to sell Jones.

This also explains why he missed Liverpool's two friendlies against Como last weekend, citing "injury."
