Draymond Green is looking forward to seeing how Klay Thompson integrates into the Heat's culture.

NBA shooting guard Klay Thompson has officially joined the Miami Heat and signed a two-year contract. Draymond Green stated on a podcast that, given Thompson's personality, he's very much looking forward to seeing what kind of sparks the star will create with the Miami Heat.

Klay Thompson, born in California, previously played for the Dallas Mavericks, appearing in 69 NBA regular season games in the 2025/26 season, averaging 11.7 points per game with a 39.3% field goal percentage and a 38.3% three-point percentage. Unfortunately, the Dallas Mavericks missed the playoffs that season.

In addition, Klay Thompson won four NBA championships during his career playing for the Golden State Warriors.

Draymond Green, who played alongside Klay Thompson for many years with the Golden State Warriors, said, "He was even late for the press conference to announce his signing with the team because he was stuck in traffic in Miami. But that's typical Klay Thompson."

"When I saw them announce that Klay Thompson was going to the Miami Heat, I thought it was interesting. I thought to myself, this is the culture of the Miami Heat. I don't know how this will be for Klay Thompson, because he has always lived at his own pace."

Draymond Green continued, "Klay Thompson has always acted on his own instincts, and there's no malice in it. That's just his personality, and I'm really curious to see how that personality will fit into the Miami Heat's culture."

“There’s one thing I really want to say, and I don’t like everyone saying, ‘Oh my god, it’s Klay Thompson! Klay Thompson has joined the Miami Heat!’ It makes it sound like the Klay Thompson from 2018 has joined the Miami Heat.”

Draymond Green stated, "I don't like this kind of talk because I feel like everyone is setting a trap for Klay Thompson, waiting to see him fail. So I want to make things clear here, so stop acting like the 2017 version of Klay Thompson went to the Miami Heat."

“I hope the media will talk about this more like they did when Ray Allen joined the Miami Heat, which is the role I expect Klay Thompson to play. Don’t package my brother as someone who can immediately reach that level, so that if he doesn’t, people can start criticizing him.”
