Girona have announced the signing of Matteu Morey, with the two sides agreeing to a contract until 2028.

Girona have officially announced the signing of Matteu Morey. The Spanish right-back has ended his time at Real Mallorca and officially joined Girona. The two sides have signed a two-year contract, running until June 2028, and he will represent Girona in the upcoming season.  

Born on March 2, 2000, Mateus Morey hails from Petra, Mallorca. His primary position is right-back, but he is also capable of playing as a winger. His greatest strength lies in his versatility; he possesses good explosiveness and speed, is willing to engage in physical duels defensively, and can create attacking space for the team by making forward runs. With his well-rounded technical abilities, Mateus Morey can shoulder defensive responsibilities on the flanks, participate in the team's forward runs, and provide support in attack.  

Mateus Morey's football career began early in the Mallorca youth academy, after which he continued his development within Barcelona's youth system. During his time with Barcelona's youth teams, he won the 2017/18 UEFA Youth League title. Simultaneously, Morey began representing Spain's youth national teams in international competitions, participating in the 2017 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, making seven appearances and helping Spain ultimately win the title.  

After leaving Barcelona's youth academy, Mateu Morey joined Borussia Dortmund in Germany, where he gradually transitioned into a professional player. During his time at Dortmund, he made 32 appearances for the first team and also played 18 matches for the club's reserve team. He won two major honors with the club: the 2019 German Super Cup and the 2021 German Cup.  

In the summer transfer window of 2024, Mateu Morey returned to Mallorca, back to where his professional career began. He has played for the team for the past two seasons, making a total of 38 appearances for Mallorca's first team, scoring one goal.  

Last season, Mateus Morey made 21 appearances for Mallorca, 18 of them in La Liga, and scored one goal. Now, the 26-year-old right-back has moved to Girona, boasting a rich professional resume. He previously gained experience in La Liga and the Bundesliga, and participated in important competitions such as the Copa del Rey, the German Cup, and the Champions League. Furthermore, he has represented Spain at the U17 and U21 levels.  

The arrival of Mateus Morey further enriches Girona's defensive options. This right-back not only possesses excellent physical attributes but also boasts extensive international experience, having already accumulated considerable practical experience in several high-level leagues.
