Al-Hilal announced on Sunday the formal signing of Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins. The two sides signed a three-year contract, valid until June 30, 2029.
The official announcement also confirmed that Watkins will wear the number 11 jersey at Al-Hilal.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Watkins' transfer fee was €58.4 million plus €2 million in add-ons. His annual salary in Saudi Arabia is expected to reach €15 million, with an additional performance bonus of up to €5 million.
The 30-year-old Watkins came through the Exeter youth academy and transferred from Brentford to Aston Villa in September 2020 for €34 million. He played for Villa for six seasons, making 278 appearances, scoring 108 goals and providing 47 assists, and winning the Europa League title with the team last season.
Watkins also made 24 appearances for the England national team, contributing 7 goals and 2 assists. During this time, he helped the Three Lions reach the finals of the 2024 European Championship and the third place in the 2026 World Cup.
After completing the transfer, Watkins bid farewell to Aston Villa via social media: "Six wonderful years have come to an end."
"Thank you for the wonderful memories you gave me and for your unwavering support during my highs and lows. Saying goodbye to the club is never easy, as it has always been an extremely important part of my life, both on and off the pitch."
"Once a Vila, always a Vila".
