Denver Nuggets sign DeMar DeRozan to a one-year, $3.9 million contract.

According to ESPN, six-time NBA All-Star DeMar DeRozan has agreed to a one-year, $3.9 million contract with the Denver Nuggets.

After entering free agency, DeRozan was contacted by the Miami Heat, Washington Wizards, and New Orleans Pelicans. The Nuggets' management and coaching staff have been actively communicating over the past few weeks, clearly demonstrating that DeRozan, if he joins the team, can partner with Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray, serving as an additional playmaker.

The Nuggets previously traded away young forward Payton Watson in a four-team deal, and DeRozan's addition perfectly fills the gap in their backcourt experience. Furthermore, although the Heat maintained close communication with DeRozan, they ultimately chose to focus their recruitment efforts on Klay Thompson, who was bought out.

DeMar DeRozan previously played for the Sacramento Kings, but was waived earlier in the offseason due to the team's need to streamline salary cap space. Of his original $25.7 million salary for the 2026-27 season, only $10 million is guaranteed.

The 37-year-old DeMar DeRozan has been consistent in his 17th NBA season, averaging 18.4 points per game with a field goal percentage close to 50%. Prior to this, he had averaged over 20 points per game for 12 consecutive seasons. Furthermore, he missed only 5 games last season and has played at least 70 games in each of his last five seasons, maintaining an extremely high playing time.

DeMar DeRozan began his professional career with the Toronto Raptors, playing for them for nine years before moving to the Spurs, Bulls, and Kings. By choosing the Nuggets, he hopes to continue playing a vital role in the highly competitive Western Conference and help the team push for deeper playoff runs.
