Iñigo Perez: We need to continue to refine the lineup through matches and further improve the team's performance.

Villarreal coach Iñigo Pérez spoke to the media after the team's 2-2 draw against Racing Santander in the opening round of La Liga. He stated that although the team didn't start the game well, they made timely adjustments and showed a positive response, even taking control of the game in the second half. While generally positive about securing a point, Pérez also pointed out that the team still has many areas for improvement.  

Speaking about the start of the match, Inigo Pérez said, "At the beginning of the match, we didn't reach the rhythm required for this game. We had already discussed beforehand what kind of energy and intensity we needed to approach this kind of match. Because for our opponents, this was a match carrying very strong emotions."  

"After suffering two consecutive setbacks, we regained our form, the team's performance gradually improved, and we successfully seized the opportunity to equalize. In the second half, we controlled the game very well, and I think the team deserved more. But as we became more eager to win, we became a bit impatient in the final stages, which ultimately gave the opponent opportunities to create threats."  

"We ultimately got a point, which we consider a positive result. Of course, we still need to refine some details and add new elements to both the offensive and defensive ends, building on what we've already done well."  

“We must continue to improve ourselves, but there are still many positive things to take away from this game. Racing Santander is a very strong team in this home environment.”  

Speaking about the team's comeback from a two-goal deficit, Inigo Perez particularly praised the players' resilience. He said, "The positive thing is that we responded very well when we were down by two goals. Then, at the start of the second half, we played very well, but we lacked a bit more finesse and precision in our final passes and finishing, otherwise the game could have gone in our favor."  

Regarding the first league match of the new season, Inigo Pérez believes the team has identified areas for improvement while also seeing several positive signs. Villarreal ultimately secured a point away from home, and the team now needs to continue refining its lineup, perfecting its tactics, and further improving its overall performance through matches.
