Newly promoted Coventry City will travel to the Emirates Stadium to face defending champions Mikel Arteta in their opening Premier League match of the 2026/27 season. Frank Lampard stated that Coventry will face even tougher challenges this season, and therefore encouraged the players to maintain resilience and composure at all times.

In the 2025/26 Championship season, Coventry City returned to the Premier League as champions, marking their return to the top flight after 25 years.

However, in the earlier 2026 Community Shield, Arsenal relied on goals from Calafiori, Havertz and Odegaard to defeat Manchester City 3-0 and win the title. Therefore, Arteta's team will definitely strive for victory in the first round of the new Premier League season to start their new journey.

Coventry manager Frank Lampard said, "We're definitely going to have a tougher year because the competition is completely different. So at times we need to be resilient and at other times we need to stay calm."

“One of my important responsibilities right now is to maintain this balance. I’ve had a long playing career and a coaching career, with some great moments and some difficult times.”

Lampard emphasized, "But as a club, we need to stand together in those difficult times. However, I don't want to be overly pessimistic before things happen. It's just a reality, and we have to be mentally prepared beforehand."

It's worth mentioning that Lampard has managed Everton and Chelsea during his coaching career.

Lampard also stated, "I've managed Chelsea twice, but from a public relations perspective, it wasn't good for me. However, throughout my managerial career, I've experienced all sorts of challenges, both good and bad. I believe these experiences have put me in a better position to deal with difficulties now."

"Don't get too excited about some achievements, and don't get depressed because of setbacks. Keep moving forward and focus on your work, and I'm better at doing that now than I was in the past."
