Vancouver Whitecaps announced on Tuesday that they have reached a contract extension agreement with Thomas Muller. The new contract extends the original December 2023 deal by six months, until June 30, 2027.
The 37-year-old Müller came through Bayern Munich's youth academy and made his Bundesliga debut on August 15, 2008. He then played for Bayern for 17 seasons, making 756 appearances, scoring 250 goals and providing 276 assists. His honors include two Champions League titles, two Club World Cup titles, 13 Bundesliga titles, two UEFA Super Cup titles, six German Cup titles, and eight German Super Cup titles.
Müller also made 131 appearances for Germany, contributing 45 goals and 41 assists. His most notable achievement during this period was winning the 2014 World Cup with Germany.
In August 2025, Müller joined Vancouver Whitecaps from Bayern Munich on a free transfer. To date, he has made 45 appearances in all competitions, scoring 19 goals and providing 11 assists, and helped the team win the Canadian Championship and the Western Conference Finals last season.
Following the contract extension, Vancouver Whitecaps Sporting Director Axel Schuster explained: “Since joining over a year ago, Thomas has fully integrated into the club, the city, and the province. He has further strengthened the winning mentality we have built within the team in recent years, while also demonstrating his commitment to helping the club succeed and his strong desire to win.”
"There is no doubt that the club has reached new heights since Thomas arrived. We reached the MLS Cup final for the first time and established ourselves as one of the league's top teams. With his world-class talent, on-field performance and leadership, Thomas has played a vital role in the club's success. We are delighted to extend his contract and will continue to work together to win championships in all competitions."
Müller said: "From the beginning, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Vancouver has been very welcoming and welcoming to me, and I have felt the same atmosphere within the club."
“Our tactical style emphasizes attack and possession, which is both fun and highly entertaining. You can really feel a passion spreading around the team and even the whole city. The fans are enjoying it, and I think everyone wants to be a part of what we are building.”
“For me, it’s still a lot of fun to get into the game every week. I’ve also been in great shape. I’m excited to continue working alongside the Vancouver Whitecaps and I hope we can achieve great things together in the next two years.”
