Premier League – Szoboszlai scores as Liverpool draw 2-2 with Newcastle

In another key match of the first round of the 2026/27 Premier League season, Liverpool, playing at St. James' Park, came back from behind to draw 2-2 with Newcastle United thanks to goals from Gakopo and Szoboszlai.

Two minutes into the game, Liverpool launched an attack. Wirtz received a pass from Gakopo and shot from the penalty area, but his shot was blocked by an opposing player.

In the 5th minute, William Osura played a through ball from the center circle, and Anthony Elanga received the ball and fired a low shot into the net, giving Newcastle a dream start of 1-0. In the 9th minute, Szoboszlai took a free kick, and Van Dijk's header was blocked.

In the 86th minute, Willock played a through ball to Visa, who then shot from inside the penalty area, but Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson made the save.

In stoppage time of the second half, Victor Muñoz was brought down by Lewis Hall while attempting a breakthrough, and the referee awarded Liverpool a penalty. Szoboszlai then converted the penalty, leveling the score at 1-1 for Liverpool.

Liverpool ultimately drew 2-2 with Newcastle away from home.
