TA: Due to the deadlock in contract renewal negotiations, Durant is expected to miss the Pistons' media day.

According to a report by The TA on Sunday, contract extension negotiations between Jalen Duren and the Detroit Pistons have made no progress so far. He is not expected to attend the Pistons' media day on Monday, and may even miss the training camp that begins on Tuesday.

As a restricted free agent, Duren missed several team events this summer due to contract renewal controversies. He must decide by Thursday whether to accept the Pistons' one-year, $9.6 million qualifying offer or make other plans.

Because an agreement could not be reached before the new season, Duren is currently unable to participate in the Pistons' media day as required. However, sources revealed that he had considered visiting the Pistons' training facility to express his support for his teammates and the team. If Duren ultimately does not attend, the relationship between the two sides could deteriorate further.

All indications suggest that the Pistons' most recent contract extension offer was a 5-year, $200 million deal. The contract did not include any team or player options, but it did include weight-related clauses. Durant and his agent are deeply dissatisfied with the Pistons' arrangement. They believe that management lacked due respect in their treatment of the player during the negotiations.

Duren, 22, is a 2.08-meter tall, 113-kilogram center who entered the NBA in June 2022 as the 13th overall pick in the first round. As a key member of the Pistons' run to the top of the Eastern Conference last season, he played 70 out of 82 regular season games, averaging 19.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 28.2 minutes per game, with a field goal percentage of 65.0%.

Thanks to his outstanding regular season performance, Durant was selected to the 2025/26 NBA All-NBA Third Team in May. This earned him eligibility for a max contract extension, allowing him to sign a five-year, $287 million deal with the Pistons this summer.

However, Duren's playoff performance fell far short of the Pistons' expectations. He played a total of 20 games during the playoffs, but only averaged 10.7 points, 9.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game.
