Shams: Leonard signed a 2-year, $115 million extension with the Raptors, with the second year being a player option.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania on Tuesday, the Toronto Raptors have reached a contract extension agreement with Kawhi Leonard. The two sides are expected to sign a two-year, $115 million contract, including a player option for the 2028/29 season.

All indications suggest that the new agreement will take effect starting from the 2027/28 season. Combined with his existing contract, Leonard's total salary for the next three seasons will reach $165 million.

Charania further pointed out that Leonard made significant concessions in this contract extension. He voluntarily accepted an offer approximately $11 million less than the maximum contract and waived $7.45 million in trade bonuses. This sends a clear signal: Leonard wants to finish his career with the Raptors.

Kawhi Leonard, 35, is a 6'6" (1.98m) and 102kg (102kg) forward who entered the NBA in 2011 as the 15th overall pick in the first round. He played for the San Antonio Spurs, Toronto Raptors, and Los Angeles Clippers, accumulating 798 regular season games, averaging 20.7 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.7 steals in 31.8 minutes per game. He has also earned numerous individual accolades, including 7 All-Star selections, 3 All-NBA First Team selections, 3 All-Defensive First Team selections, 2 Defensive Player of the Year awards, and 1 steals title.

Leonard also played 146 playoff games, averaging 21.5 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.8 steals in 35.6 minutes per game, with a field goal percentage of 51.3% and a three-point percentage of 39.9%. His most representative playoff achievements are undoubtedly leading the Spurs and Raptors to championships in 2014 and 2019 respectively, winning the Finals MVP award.
