Floyd Samba made his Manchester City first-team debut with a goal: "Even I can't believe it."

Manchester City defeated Championship side Norwich City 5-0 in the third round of the 2026/27 EFL Cup, thanks to goals from Floyd Samba, Laryan Serki, Allan Elias, and Ryan McAdoo. Floyd Samba said after the match that it was incredible to make his debut in such a way.

In the 29th minute, Nico Aureli crossed from the left, Allan Elias chipped the ball into the box, and Floyd Samba headed it in, giving Manchester City a 1-0 lead. In the 32nd minute, Ayub Bouadi played a diagonal pass, and Rajan Sherkhi received the ball and fired a long-range shot into the net, extending Manchester City's lead over Norwich to 2-0.

In the 48th minute of the second half, Ait Nouri played a through ball to Alan Elias, who broke through the defense and slotted the ball home, extending Manchester City's lead to 3-0. In the 54th minute, Ait Nouri passed back to Floyd Samba, who curled a shot into the net, making it 4-0 for Manchester City.

In the 90th minute, Nico Aureli passed the ball across the field, and Ryan McAdoo slotted it home, extending Manchester City's lead to 5-0. Ultimately, Manchester City defeated Norwich 5-0 at home.

17-year-old Manchester City midfielder Floyd Samba said, "Just before yesterday's game, I knew I might have the chance to play for the first team for the first time. It's unbelievable to make my debut like this, I can't believe it myself. But this is just the beginning, I have a long way to go in my career, but it was a fantastic debut."

“I’m absolutely thrilled. As a player making my first appearance in a first-team match, I had to expect everything to improve, including the intensity of the game, the level of the players, and everything else. Players have to be able to keep up with this pace and adapt to this kind of game, and I think I did pretty well in that regard.”

Floyd Samba, who came through Manchester City's youth academy, shared, "It's a big leap from the U21 team to the first team. Training is more tiring, you have to run more, and they have higher expectations of us, so you have to adapt to all of that."

“I’ve spoken with all the first-team players, and they’ve all been very kind to me. They gave me a lot of advice before the game. That gave me confidence and helped me score two goals today.”

On the other hand, Manchester City will face Brighton in the next round of the English League Cup, while Schürrle's team had previously eliminated Manchester United.

Floyd Samba said, "I can't wait. Now we need to recover and rest first, and then the team can get back on track. We'll continue training tomorrow, and then we'll play Sunderland, so everyone has to be ready for that."
