Fiorentina sacked head coach Fabio Grosso following three consecutive losses at the start of the new season..

Fiorentina announced on their official website on Wednesday that head coach Fabio Grosso has been sacked with immediate effect.

According to the Fiorentina's official statement, former head coach Paolo Vanoli is returning immediately to take charge of the team once again.

It is worth mentioning that I Viola had sacked Vanoli just a month ago, opting to hire Grosso instead, n a bid to shift the team's tactical philosophy. During that process, the club's management had even provided Grosso with significant funds to sign several star players; the decision to sack Vanoli in the first place has now left the Fiorentina board looking highly embarrassed.

Fiorentina has endured a disastrous start to the 2026/27 season. After suffering defeats against Roma, Frosinone, and Torino, the club sits at the bottom of the table with zero points following three consecutive losses.

During his brief one-month tenure, Grosso’s only victory came in the first round of the Coppa Italia, though that win was against the Serie C side Benevento. Had Fiorentina lost that match as well, Grosso’s situation would have been even more humiliating.

The 48-year-old Grosso was a distinguished player who represented clubs such as Palermo, Inter Milan, Lyon, and Juventus. His honours include two Serie A titles, one Intertoto Cup, one Supercoppa Italiana, one Ligue 1 title, one Coupe de France, and one Trophée des Champions; he was also a member of the Italy squad that won the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

After retiring in 2012, Grosso was appointed as a coach within the Juventus youth academy the following summer, marking the start of his managerial career.

In the summer of 2017, Grosso took on his first head coaching role at Bari, subsequently managing Hellas Verona, Brescia, and Sion.

In March 2021, Grosso was appointed as the new head coach of Frosinone. 

Under Grosso's leadership, Frosinone won the Serie B title and secured a return to Serie A after a four-year absence; however, Grosso himself left the club in the summer of 2023 after his contract was not renewed.

After leaving Frosinone, Grosso returned to Lyon as head coach in September of the same year but was sacked after just two months due to poor results.

In the summer of 2024, Grosso was appointed head coach of Sassuolo.

After helping I Neroverdi win the Serie B title, he was given the opportunity to manage Fiorentina this summer, but due to poor results, he became yet another head coach to be sacked by the Serie A powerhouse in recent years.
