Union Berlin's Portugal international center-back Diogo Leite officially joins Lazio on a free transfer..

Lazio announced on their official website on Tuesday that Union Berlin's Portugal international center-back Diogo Leite has joined the club on a free transfer.

According to the Serie A powerhouse's official statement, Leite has signed on a short-term two-year deal with the club which will only run until the summer of 2028, with an option to extend for a further two years. He will wear the number 2 jersey.

About Diogo Leite

The 27 year-old Leite was born on January 23, 1999, in Porto, Portugal. He is 1.90 meters tall and plays as a center-back.

Leite joined Porto's youth academy at the age of nine. He began playing for the B team in 2017 and completed his Porto first-team debut in the Portuguese Super Cup match in July of the following year.

During his three-year spell with the Dragões Leite won the Portuguese Super Cup twice, the Taça do Portugal once, and the Portuguese Primeira Liga title once.

In August 2021, Leite was loaned-out to SC Braga.

The following July, he was loaned-out to Union Berlin.

After helping the club secure a surprise UEFA Champions League qualification, Union Berlin triggered his €7.5 million buyout clause in the summer of 2023.

During his time with Die Eisernen, Leite made 136 appearances across all competitions for the Bundesliga club, scored two goals and provided four assists.
