According to Lusby's report, this decision is largely due to two reasons, one of which was an unforeseen circumstances.

He revealed that Yankuba Minteh suffered a serious right leg injury earlier this month in a preseason friendly against Roma. Although he has undergone surgery, doctors estimate that Minteh will be ruled out for at least two to three months, meaning the player is likely to fail his medical, significantly reducing the likelihood of the transfer being completed.

Furthermore, Lusby also revealed that Brighton's unreasonable demands were another major reason that prompted Liverpool's decision to give up negotiations.

Liverpool actually submitted three offers in the past week. After their initial £50 million and second offers of £60 million were rejected by Brighton, the Reds submitted a third offer with an initial fee of £70 million, but this was also rejected.

It is understood that the Seagulls informed Liverpool that they would only consider selling Minteh for at least £80 million, this price is higher than the Reds' valuation. Therefore, the Reds ultimately decided to give up negotiations with Brighton altogether.

Furthermore, Lusby said that after giving up on their pursuit of Minteh, Liverpool attempted to approach Crystal Palace regarding the transfer of Senegal international winger Ismaïla Sarr.

He revealed that, similar to the Minteh situation, the Reds submitted an initial offer of between £50 million and £55 million to Crystal Palace, but this was also ultimately rejected by the Eagles.

Given that Sarr is already 28 years old, Liverpool saw no need to increase their offer and opted to abandon the plans. The Reds are now expected to turn their attention to players outside the Premier League.

Finally, Lusby added that Liverpool will hold another important round of talks with Paris Saint-Germain in the next two days regarding the transfer of Bradley Barcola.

As both sides are unable to reach a consensus on the player's valuation, both Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain have decided to delegate the negotiations directly to their respective largest shareholders, Fenway Sports Group (FSG) and Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

Liverpool will try again to reduce Barcora's asking price to €140 million from the Ligue 1 and Champions League defending champions. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the transfer is expected to be agreed upon before the end of this week.
