Louis returned to college basketball after a temporary suspension to represent LSU.

August 25th - According to ESPN , RJ Lewis, the 2025 Big East Conference Player of the Year, has seen a turnaround. A Louisiana judge has granted his application for a temporary injunction, allowing him to play for Louisiana State University ( LSU ) in the new season .

Louis played for St. John's University in the 2024-25 season, averaging 18.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, and was named to the All-American Second Team. After going undrafted in the 2025 NBA draft, he signed a two-way contract with the Jazz and an Exhibit 10 contract with a Celtics-related team , but never played in an NBA regular season game and also did not play for any G League teams due to injury.

After a hearing lasting approximately five hours, the judge granted Louis's application for a preliminary injunction against the NCAA . Louis's lawyers argued that the NCAA had previously allowed several overseas professional players to return to college basketball, and therefore American players should also have similar opportunities.

The NCAA argued that Louis's decision to leave college for professional basketball differed from that of players in overseas professional leagues. However, the judge considered that Louis did not actually participate in professional basketball games, and whether he fully understood his choice when he left school was also an important factor in the court's decision.
