The Hornets are strengthening their coaching staff; Bryant joins Charles Lee's coaching team.

August 20th - According to HoopsHype reporter Michael Scotto, the Charlotte Hornets will hire John Bryant as an assistant coach. Bryant previously worked on the Chicago Bulls' coaching staff, including with guard Coby White.

Bryant has served as an NBA assistant coach since 2018. From 2016 to 2020, he worked under Philadelphia 76ers head coach Brett Brown before joining the Chicago Bulls, where he served as Billy Donovan's assistant coach for the past four seasons.

With the Hornets trading guard LaMelo Ball to the Minnesota Timberwolves this summer, 26-year-old White will take on greater responsibility in the 2026-27 season and is expected to become the team's starting point guard.

In the 2025-26 season, White played 21 games, averaging 15.6 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists per game, with a field goal percentage of 46.1% and a three-point percentage of 39.1% . In the second half of the season, his efficient scoring helped the Hornets bounce back and ultimately advance to the play-in tournament.
