Coventry City have officially signed Nottingham Forest striker Awoniyi.

Coventry City Football Club has officially announced the permanent signing of 29-year-old Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest.

As a key striker who has played in England's top flight for many years, Awoniyi has played for Nottingham Forest for the past four seasons, making 103 appearances and scoring 23 goals in all competitions (including 21 goals in 90 Premier League appearances).

Awoniyi began his professional career at Liverpool, gaining experience on loan in several leagues in his early years before blossoming at Union Berlin in the Bundesliga, where he scored 20 goals in a single season. In 2022, Nottingham Forest broke their club transfer record to sign him.

In his first season with the club, Awoniyi scored 11 goals, helping the team avoid relegation and reach the League Cup semi-finals. In the 2024-25 season, he helped the team finish seventh in the Premier League and qualify for European competition, demonstrating his strong attacking ability. In addition, he has made 10 appearances for the Nigerian national team, contributing 2 goals.

After completing the signing, Awoniyi couldn't hide his excitement in an interview: "I'm very happy to have completed the transfer to Coventry City. I'm full of expectations for the new season and can't wait to start this new journey."
