Italian legend Dino Gilardino has officially taken over as head coach of Parma, signing a contract until June 2027.

Parma announced in a statement on Tuesday the official appointment of 44-year-old Alberto Gilardino as their first-team coach. The contract runs until June 30, 2027, with an option to extend for two more seasons.

The official announcement also confirmed that Parma's coaching staff will welcome four new members. They are assistant coach Gaetano Caridi, technical coach Francesco Valiani, fitness coach Antonio Bovenzi, and match analyst Mirko Vecchi.

During his playing career, Gilardino helped Italy win the 2006 World Cup and AC Milan win one Champions League title, one Club World Cup title, and one UEFA Super Cup title. He also played for Parma for three seasons, making 116 appearances and contributing 56 goals and 8 assists.

After retiring in 2018, Gilardino coached Rezato, Provercelli, Siena, Genoa, and Pisa. He has accumulated a record of 80 wins, 57 draws, and 62 losses to date, and has been unemployed for about seven months.

For Parma, Gilardino's main task upon his return is to lead the team to safety from relegation. Parma currently sits in 15th place in Serie A with 4 points from 1 win, 1 draw, and 3 losses, a position that cost Gilardino's predecessor, Carlos Cuesta, his job.
