Manchester City, an English Premier League club, may face relegation due to involvement in a case involving over £900 million.

The Premier League has announced that, after a nearly two-year investigation by an independent commission, all charges against Manchester City for breaching the league's financial rules over nine seasons from 2009 to 2018 have been substantiated.

The investigation concluded that Manchester City inflated its revenue and concealed costs by more than £900 million through a series of "sham contracts" and covert capital injections, and submitted false financial statements to regulators.

In its 40-page core ruling, the committee pointed out that Manchester City had signed agreements with several commercial sponsors, but the sponsorship fees were actually subsidized privately by the club's parent company, Abu Dhabi United Investment and Development Group (ADUG).

Meanwhile, the club also used a third-party company to conduct fraudulent transactions involving player and former manager Roberto Mancini's image rights in order to conceal true operating expenses. Furthermore, the report harshly criticized several Manchester City witnesses for perjury and concluded that the club colluded to obstruct the investigation.

Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters has called it "the biggest case in Premier League history" and stated that subsequent disciplinary proceedings will proceed swiftly. Given the enormous sums involved, it is widely expected that Manchester City will face unprecedented penalties, including a significant points deduction that could directly lead to relegation. While UEFA is limited by the five-year statute of limitations and cannot pursue further action, internal Premier League sanctions are now inevitable.

Manchester City vehemently denied any wrongdoing, expressing shock and disappointment at the ruling, claiming to possess irrefutable evidence, and confirming they would formally appeal before Friday. Club CEO Soriano even stated internally that the decision was based on "premier League conspiracy theories." The tug-of-war between the two sides over the final sanctions has officially begun.
