The Hornets waived Rob Dillingham, who became a free agent just one day after joining them.

September 29th - According to ESPN , the Charlotte Hornets will waive guard Rob Dillingham . Just one day earlier, the Hornets acquired the player from the Chicago Bulls, sending Buddy Hield and cash in exchange .

The 21- year -old Dillingham has played for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Bulls, and Hornets in the past two years. In the 2024 NBA Draft, the Timberwolves traded up two future first-round picks and selected Dillingham with the 8th overall pick.

During his time with the Timberwolves, the 6'6 " Dillingham struggled to break into Chris Finch 's regular rotation, never averaging more than 15 minutes per game in over two seasons. After joining the Bulls last season, he played 30 games, averaging 9.6 points and 2.8 assists with a 42.8% field goal percentage .

Meanwhile, the Hornets acquired a $ 9.6 million trade exception through the deal and cleared the remainder of Hield's multi-year contract. Dillingham became a free agent again just one day after joining the Hornets.
