Hennessy Behrens became the fifth player to be called up to the German national team while playing for Augsburg, following Ulrich Bissinger, Helmut Haller, Andre Hahn, and Merjim Berisha. The 21-year-old also made his senior national team debut in Germany's 0-1 home defeat to Greece.
After the final whistle blew, Hennessy Behrens spoke about this night, which was special to him yet tinged with some regret. The joy of making his debut for the German national team was intertwined with the disappointment of the team's loss. He said, "I'm proud of my debut and very happy. Tonight, I was able to realize my childhood dream, which is obviously a very special thing, but because of the course of the game and the final result, the atmosphere in the stadium was somewhat somber."
In the 84th minute, Hennessy Behrens came on as a substitute, replacing Nathaniel Brown. Germany hoped this substitution would energize their attack and attempt to change the course of the game. After the match, Hennessy Behrens said, "It all happened so suddenly, I didn't even have time to feel nervous."
“It was a very tough match. Greece gave us a lot of trouble. They were very compact defensively and executed their low press very well, while we were unable to maintain that level of intensity throughout the 90 minutes.”
Despite the team's failure to achieve the desired result, Henness Behrens still praised his first week in the German national team. Reflecting on the experience, he said, "I learned a lot from the other players on the team, both in terms of character and football. The past week has been very valuable for me, and everything I experienced has benefited me greatly."
“We new players have all felt a very warm welcome, and everyone has helped us adapt to the environment quickly. Overall, our integration into the team has been very smooth, and the team's chemistry and cohesion are constantly improving.”
