Lewis Ferguson believes he and Billy Gilmour can work well together in midfield and bring different characteristics to the team.

Scottish midfielder Lewis Ferguson also attended the pre-match press conference and spoke about his partnership with Billy Gilmour in midfield, with the two showing good understanding in the previous match against Slovenia.

Lewis Ferguson said: "Obviously, we've missed Billy Gilmour very much all summer. He's not only a good friend of mine, but we've also maintained a very close relationship, both on and off the pitch. We've always played well together, so I'm very happy to be able to play alongside him again. We've played together a lot over the years, both in the U21 national team and earlier in our youth teams."

“It’s great to see him back with the team. I’m happy that he can step onto the court again this season, which is very important to him. He had a relatively tough summer, so I’m very happy to be able to play alongside him again.”

“We’ve both been through some difficulties and have similar upbringing. I’ve known Billy Gilmour since he was 9 or 10, and we’ve grown up together, which has been a wonderful experience. In the past, we haven’t really had the opportunity to play together for the national team consecutively. I think we can work well together in midfield because we can bring different characteristics to the team.”

Lewis Ferguson also discussed his changing role in the national team. With the arrival of several new players in this training camp, he has now become a relatively senior member of the squad. He stated, "It's obvious that my role in the team has changed significantly, and the head coach mentioned this when speaking with me."

“Now I have more experience in the team and am gradually becoming one of the players who take on leadership responsibilities. The team has changed a lot since I first joined the national team training camp. I know very well how young players feel when they first join the national team, and I know what difficulties they may face. If they need any help, I will do my best to support them.”
