The third round of group stage matches in Group E of the 2026/27 UEFA Nations League will take place, with Scotland hosting Switzerland at Hampden Park. Pocognoli stated that his team has strong players and therefore he is not worried about not scoring goals.
In their first group stage match recently, Scotland managed only a 0-0 draw against Slovenia away from home. It's worth noting that Scotland have failed to score in their last three matches across all competitions.
Scotland manager Pocognoli said, "That was just the first game. Some games you can score, and some you'll have bad luck. I'm not worried about the team not scoring because we have excellent strikers. And not just strikers, we can create scoring opportunities from many different positions."
"Hopefully we can score against Switzerland, then we can talk about something else. I really hope we can start the game strongly."
Pocognoli said, "This will be a special moment, as it is my first time coaching at home. I have been looking forward to this moment ever since I was appointed as the head coach. As a new head coach, this is a game that I have been particularly looking forward to on my schedule."
In Switzerland, Jakin's team secured a 3-0 victory over North Macedonia in their first group stage match, thanks to goals from Freuler and Zeki Amduni.
Speaking about Scottish winger Ben Doc who plays for Bournemouth, Pocognoli said, "I've spoken to Ben Doc because he wants to play, and he might get a chance tomorrow. I just want to make sure he's fit because it would be really difficult for him if he doesn't get playing time at Bournemouth and then doesn't play in his first game for the national team."
“He needs our support and then he can perform well back at Bournemouth. I hope this national team training camp will help those players who haven’t had much playing time and then let them return to the club with a good mindset. Ben Dock will get playing time because Bournemouth will be playing in the Europa League next.”
Pocognoli also said, "What really worries me is next March. If the players still don't get much playing time by then, we will have difficulties in terms of physicality and fitness during the game."
"There are no problems yet because we are still in the post-preseason training phase. We'll see how things go in November, but we must make sure the players get enough playing time."
