Kimmich believed that Germany's draw with the Netherlands was a reasonable result.

In their opening match of the 2026/27 UEFA Nations League Group B, Germany took the lead through a goal from Nmecha, but conceded a late equalizer, ultimately drawing 1-1 with the Netherlands. Kimmich stated that the draw was a reasonable result and expressed his hope that the team's defensive and pressing abilities would be further improved under Klopp's leadership.

Kimmich chipped a pass into the penalty area in the 32nd minute, Adyemi attempted a shot but it was cleared, and then Nmecha scored in the ensuing scramble, giving Germany a 1-0 lead.

In stoppage time of the second half, Van Bommel dribbled forward and chipped the ball into the penalty area, where Gakopo volleyed it into the net, leveling the score at 1-1 for the Netherlands.

Ultimately, Germany were held to a 1-1 draw by the Netherlands away from home. It's worth noting that this was also the first match under new manager Jurgen Klopp's leadership.

Germany's captain Joshua Kimmich said, "It was a very intense match. Although not every performance was perfect, we still performed well most of the time."

“We had a great chance to make it 2-0, but in the second half, we could feel the Netherlands getting stronger. We also had a couple of counter-attacking opportunities, but we didn’t handle them well in crucial moments. Overall, it was a fair and reasonable draw.”

When discussing the changes brought about by new manager Klopp, Kimmich said, "In the past few days, our focus has been on defense and high pressing, and how we want to put pressure on the opponent."

"We have been trying to build a tactical structure, which is the foundation for us to play well and the basis for our continued improvement in ball possession."
