Storied American Counter Strike 2 (CS2) powerhouse Complexity, announced the official end of its operations on Thursday via its official X (Twitter) account.

The news was personally announced by its former owner and CEO, Jason Lake. He said, rather than seeing Complexity suffer the ignominious fate of dissolution due to mismanagement after an acquisition, a fate that has befallen other teams, he preferred to personally and honorably close the chapter on the team, which had effectively ceased operations in the second half of 2025.

Lake added that he and his colleagues at the management are still adjusting to life being away from Complexity after 23 years, but he remains deeply grateful to everyone who supported the club's development over the years.

He also confirmed that the Complexity intellectual property has been returned to its majority shareholder, GameSquare, and hinted at launching a new project after taking a sabbatical. It remains to be seen whether this will involve establishing a new club or pivoting to other e-sports titles.

Complexity is one of the most legendary teams in the Counter Strike (CS) esports scene. The organization first fielded a roster in 2004 and maintained a CS team for all but one of the subsequent 22 years.

During this time, the organization secured several major championship titles, including the 2005 Electronic Sports World Cup, the 2006 CPL Summer, and the 2004 ESL Challenger Jönköping.

Additionally, they competed in 10 official Major tournaments, achieving a top-four finish at DreamHack Winter 2013 and reaching the top eight at both EMS One Katowice 2014 and the FACEIT Major 2018.

In 2017, a majority stake in Complexity was sold to Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and real estate investor John Goff, then the organization was subsequently acquired by GameSquare in 2021.

In 2024, Lake led an investment consortium to repurchase the brand. However, due to the challenging economic climate in the esports industry the following year, the organization was unable to sustain the normal operations of its CS team and ultimately withdrew from the discipline in August 2025.
