Daily Mail: Aston Villa have begun contract extension talks with Buendia

According to a report by the Daily Mail on Wednesday, Aston Villa have begun contract extension talks with Emiliano Buendía.

The Daily Mail further points out that Buendia's current contract expires in June 2027. Although the contract includes a one-year extension option, Villa still hopes to secure Buendia's future as soon as possible with a long-term deal.

The 29-year-old Buendia came through Getafe's youth academy and made his first-team debut in the Copa del Rey on December 5, 2014. He joined Norwich City from Getafe in 2018 and then transferred to Aston Villa for £38 million in 2021.

Buendia primarily plays as an attacking midfielder for Aston Villa, but can also play on the right wing, left wing, and other positions. To date, he has made 159 appearances for Aston Villa, scoring 23 goals and providing 18 assists, and helped the team win the 2025/26 Europa League title.

Thanks to his outstanding performances at the club level, Buendia is now one of Unai Emery's most relied-upon attacking players. Emery praised him highly last November: "He deserves everything because he has put in a tremendous effort to regain his best form."

“When we decided to keep him, and he decided to stay with the team, I was confident that he could deliver the results he has today.”

At the national team level, Buendia has only made two appearances for Argentina. As a fringe player for the Albiceleste, he has yet to score a goal or provide an assist.
