Eriksen terminated his contract with Wolfsburg ahead of schedule; the contract was originally set to expire next summer.

Wolfsburg announced on Wednesday that it had prematurely terminated Christian Eriksen's contract, which was originally set to expire next summer.

Since joining Wolfsburg on a free transfer in September 2025, Eriksen has made 34 appearances in all competitions, scoring 3 goals and providing 10 assists. The 34-year-old has been sidelined since suffering a suspected cardiac arrest in June of this year.

Besides Wolfsburg, Eriksen also played for Ajax, Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan, Brentford, and Manchester United. During this time, he won numerous honors with the teams, including three Eredivisie titles, one Dutch Cup, one Dutch Super Cup, one Serie A title, one FA Cup, and one English League Cup.

At the national team level, Eriksen also made significant contributions. He represented Denmark 151 times, scoring 46 goals and providing 35 assists.

Following the termination of his contract, Wolfsburg's sporting director, Dieter Hecking, stated: "We are well aware that Christian's future is entirely up to him. Under these special circumstances, we wanted to give him sufficient freedom. Now, we have fulfilled his request to terminate his contract."

"He has had an extraordinary career, full of ups and downs and remarkable achievements. That's what makes his approachable and down-to-earth attitude all the more precious. Although his time was short, he left a deep impression on his teammates, staff and fans. We are very grateful to Christian and wish him and his family all the best."

Eriksson then bid a heartfelt farewell to Wolfsburg: "For me, the most important thing right now is to stay in Denmark with my family. I'm glad we were able to find a solution together. My time at Wolfsburg has been quite eventful. I believe the club is now back on track and will definitely return to the Bundesliga. I'm also confident that Wolfsburg's future is bright."
