Dutch coach Xavi wants to see his players display ambition and intensity, without the need for individualism.

The 2026/27 UEFA Nations League will enter the group stage, with the Netherlands hosting Germany in their opening Group B match. New manager Xavi stated that the team needs no individualism and emphasized his desire to see his players demonstrate ambition and intensity.

The Dutch national football team announced in August the appointment of Barcelona legend Xavi as its new head coach, signing him to a four-year contract. Xavi, from Spain, previously managed La Liga giants Barcelona from 2021 to 2024, leading them to one La Liga title and one Spanish Super Cup.

In an interview, Xavi said, "Everyone must understand that we are a team and a family. We don't need individualism; the most important thing here is the collective and the team."

“I want everyone to see a team full of passion, ambition and intensity. Van Dijk is ready to compete and ready to be the team’s leader and captain.”

Speaking about Germany's new head coach Jürgen Klopp, Xavi said, "Klopp is one of the best coaches in the world in recent years. For me personally, this will be a huge challenge, and for the whole team as well. We must bring our highest level of play because we are facing a very good team."

It's worth mentioning that Dutch captain Virgil van Dijk played under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, and together they won the Premier League and Champions League titles.

Van Dijk said, "I'm looking forward to meeting Klopp. He's a very important person in my career. I'm looking forward to meeting him, but I hope we can make sure his first game as national team coach ends in defeat."

"Klopp is a very complete manager. It will be a tough game, but we are ready."
