Dean Henderson: We must continue to be this competitive, and I just hope to enjoy the journey.

Last week, Crystal Palace captain Dean Henderson signed a contract extension with the club, meaning he will continue to play for Selhurst Park. The England goalkeeper has officially confirmed his long-term destination, having spent over three years with Crystal Palace since joining from Manchester United in the summer of 2023.  

Dean Henderson's time at Crystal Palace coincided with a pivotal period in the club's history. He has already won three trophies with the team, and in May of this year, he captained Crystal Palace to the European Championship title.  

Following his contract extension, Crystal Palace TV interviewed captain Dean Henderson to reflect on his most memorable experiences during his time at South London. Speaking about the FA Cup victory, he said, "That FA Cup was truly incredible. As an Englishman, I know very well how long and rich the history of this competition is."  

"Moreover, we not only brought the trophy home, but more importantly, it was Crystal Palace's first major championship trophy in history, making this honor even more special. That day was truly incredible. Sometimes when you look back at that match, it feels like you're watching a movie, and the whole process feels like it was all preordained."  

Speaking about the team's European title win in Leipzig, Dean Henderson said, "I think that match carried more meaning because by that point, we had already experienced what it felt like to win a title. We also wanted to reclaim what was rightfully ours."  

“It was an unforgettable night, and it propelled the club to continue moving in the right direction. Being able to compete in European competitions is one of the key factors in attracting top players. We must maintain this competitiveness, and I just hope to enjoy this journey. Of course, after last season, expectations for us have become higher because we maintained a 100% win rate in European competitions, which is truly an incredible achievement.”  

"The fans traveled all over Europe to cheer us on, always acting as the team's 'twelfth man,' and then we celebrated with them in Leipzig. It was an incredible feeling."
