U.S. international Matt Miazga has officially joined New York City FC, having previously played for Chelsea.

New York City FC officially announced on Tuesday that they have claimed U.S. center-back Matt Miazga from their free agent list. Miazga will join New York City FC from Cincinnati on a contract until December 31, 2026.

The 31-year-old Miazga came through the New York Red Bulls' youth academy and made his professional debut for the first team in an MLS regular season match on September 8, 2013. He has played for Chelsea since 2016, and in the following four years, he was loaned out to Vitesse, Nantes, Reading, Anderlecht, and Alavés.

In August 2022, Miazga joined Cincinnati on a free transfer. To date, he has made 108 appearances for Cincinnati, scoring 2 goals and providing 3 assists, and has won one regular season championship with the team.

Miazga also made 28 appearances for the U.S. national team, contributing one goal and two assists. His greatest achievement to date is undoubtedly winning the Gold Cup with the team in 2017.

Regarding the signing of Miazga, New York City Sports Director Todd Dunivant commented: "We are delighted to welcome Matt to New York City. Matt brings a wealth of experience, a good mentality, and competitiveness to our defense. As the season enters its final stretch, his leadership will play a vital role."
