Former St. Pauli manager Blasien has officially taken over as manager of Borussia Mönchengladbach, with his term lasting until 2028.

Borussia Mönchengladbach announced on Tuesday the official appointment of 53-year-old Alexander Bressing as their first-team manager. The two sides signed a two-year contract, valid until June 30, 2028.

Bressien was born in Stuttgart, Germany in 1973. During his playing career, he played for several teams, including Stuttgart, Stuttgart Kickers, Antalya, Hoffenheim, and Regensburg. After retiring, he spent many years working in the youth academy at RB Leipzig and has been the sole manager of the first team since 2020.

To date, Blaisen has served as manager of Oostende, Genoa, Union Saint-Giroud, and St. Pauli. At the club level, he has accumulated a record of 147 wins, 57 draws, and 113 losses, during which time he led Union Saint-Giroud to a Belgian Cup title.

However, Blasien has been unemployed since stepping down as manager of St. Pauli in June. His appointment as manager of Borussia Mönchengladbach, replacing Eugene Polanski, means he has returned to the helm after a three-month hiatus.

For Blaisen, his primary task upon taking over is to lead Borussia Mönchengladbach to safety from relegation. Mönchengladbach has had a poor start to the season, currently sitting at the bottom of the Bundesliga after four losses.
