Arsenal reach contract extension agreement with manager Mikel Arteta

According to media reports, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has reached an agreement in principle with the club regarding a contract extension, and the Spanish manager will continue to lead the Gunners for the long term. An official announcement is expected during the upcoming international break.

Mikel Arteta, 44, took over as Arsenal manager in 2019. His current contract, signed in September 2024, was originally scheduled to expire next summer. Speaking about the contract ahead of the recent away game against Brighton, Arteta stated that they are completely aligned and share common ambitions, so there is no need for outsiders to worry.

Since taking over at the Emirates Stadium, Arteta has demonstrated exceptional leadership. After three consecutive seasons finishing as league runners-up, he led Arsenal to their first Premier League title in 22 years last season.

Furthermore, Arteta led Arsenal to their second Champions League final appearance in their history, narrowly losing to Paris Saint-Germain in a penalty shootout, but still achieving their best result in European competitions in recent years. During his managerial career, he also won one FA Cup and three Community Shield titles.

According to Sky Sports reporter Gary Cotterell, the two sides finalized the framework several weeks ago, and only routine administrative procedures such as signing the contract remain. Arteta renewed his contract two years ago during the September international break, and this signing is expected to be officially completed within the next two weeks, allowing him to continue steadily advancing the club's ambitious plans.
