Liverpool secured a narrow 1-0 away victory over Bournemouth at Vitality Stadium in Matchweek 5 of the 2026/27 Premier League season.

In the first half, both teams saw several shots brilliantly saved by respective goalkeepers. In the second half, Isak scored from a close-range follow-up shot. Ultimately, Liverpool won with a 1-0 away win. Following this round of matches, the Reds, with their fifth unbeaten game since the start of the season, currently sits in 6th place with 9 points, while the Cherries are 17th with 3 points.

First Half

In the 18th minute, Marcus Tavernier crossed into the box from the byline at the left wing. Evanilson quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, strucked the ball with his left foot from a very close distance in the box, but his shot was kept out of the goal line by Alisson. Bournemouth missed a golden opportunity to break the deadlock first!

15 minutes later, Alexander Isak passes horizontally from the left wing. Bradley Barcola quickly followed up, got the ball, dribbled and cuts into the left side of the box before volleying with his right foot, but his shot was blocked by Đorđe Petrović’s outstretched leg.

In the 35th minute, Liverpool won a free-kick. Dominik Szoboszlai stepped up to take the free kick struck the ball directly with his right foot from outside the penalty area, but his shot went just slightly wide of the bottom left corner of the post.

At the end of the first half, both Bournemouth and Liverpool teams head into the break with the match remained goalless.

Second Half

Both teams switched sides as the match continued. In the 53rd minute, Rayan crossed into the box from the byline at the right wing. Ryan Christie quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, half-volleyed with his right foot from a very close distance in the box, but his shot was blocked by Jérémy Jacquet. 

4 minutes later, Cody Gakpo crossed into the box from the right wing. Florian Wirtz quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, volleyed with his right foot from the right side of box. His shot was initially blocked and cleared off not far away by James Hill. Upon picking up the loose ball, Alexander Isak slotted the ball into the bottom left corner of the net with a right-footed follow-up shot. Liverpool finally broke deadlock to take a 0-1 lead! This is the Sweden international forward's fourth goal of the season!

In the 68th minute, Tyler Adams made a straight pass from the attacking third. Evanilson stopped the ball before volleying with his right foot from the left side of the box, but his shot was saved by Alisson.

There was no further significant attacks from either side from then on. When the final whistle is blown, Liverpool secured a narrow 1–0 away victory over Bournemouth in the match in head coach Andoni Iraola's first return to his former club.
