Former Manchester United defender Mascia joined Cincinnati on a free transfer, signing a contract until June 2027.

Cincinnati State announced on Saturday that Dutch left-back Tyrell Malacia has joined the club on a free transfer. He has signed a contract until June 30, 2027, with an option to extend for the 2027/28 season.

Malaysia accepted a trial with Cincinnati earlier this week, after which the club decided to facilitate the signing. They paid St. Louis City a $200,000 General Allocation Fee (GAM) to secure their international player slot in the 2026 MLS season.

“We are delighted to bring in an experienced player like Tyrrell,” said Cincinnati’s general manager, Chris Albright, after the signing. “He has competed at the top level and knows the demands of that environment. His footwork, defensive awareness, and teamwork are a valuable addition to the team. We are excited to have him join Cincinnati.”

The 27-year-old Malaysian, a product of Feyenoord's youth academy, transferred to Manchester United in July 2022 for €17 million. Suffering from a torn meniscus in his left knee, he has only made 50 appearances for Manchester United so far, winning one English League Cup with the team.

Malaysia also joined PSV Eindhoven on loan for the second half of the 2024/25 season, aiming to regain his best form. He made only 12 appearances for PSV, 6 of which were as a substitute.

At the national team level, Malaysia has made 9 appearances for the Netherlands so far, providing 2 assists. He was also a member of the Oranje for the 2022 Qatar World Cup, but has not been called up since June 2023.
