Mark Williams underwent surgery on his left shoulder and is expected to miss several months of the new season.

September 18th - According to ESPN , Phoenix Suns center Mark Williams underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. The team subsequently announced that Williams is expected to be sidelined for several months.

Williams, 24, is 7 feet 1 inch ( approximately 2.16 meters) tall and returned to the Suns this offseason with a three- year, $ 38 million fully guaranteed contract. The injury occurred during a recent offseason practice.

Last season was Williams' most-playing season in his four- year NBA career, with 60 games played, surpassing his previous single-season high of 44 games. Williams averaged 23.6 minutes, 11.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks per game.

Williams joined the Suns from the Charlotte Hornets via trade on draft night in 2025 and became the team's starting center, helping them secure a playoff berth. To date, he has averaged 12 points , 8.5 rebounds, and 1 block per game in his career.

With Williams out, the Suns are expected to rely more on Oso Iguodala and Kaman Maluachi to fill the center position.
