McAllister: Scoring goals is very important to our confidence.

Goals from McAllister, Gakopo, and Szoboszlai secured a 3-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the third round of the 2026/27 EFL Cup. Argentine star McAllister stated that the goals were crucial to the players' confidence and expressed his hope that the young players would succeed at Liverpool.

In the 21st minute, Gakerbo's cross was cleared, and McAllister then unleashed a long-range shot that struck the post and went into the net, giving Liverpool a 1-0 lead.

In the 54th minute of the second half, McAllister played a through ball into the penalty area, where Gaker received the ball and slotted it home, giving Liverpool a 2-0 lead over Tottenham Hotspur. In the 69th minute, Matus Fernandes took a corner, and Gallagher headed the ball into the net, pulling one back for Tottenham Hotspur to make it 2-1.

In the 90th minute, Szoboszlai received a pass from Gakopo outside the penalty area and fired a long-range shot into the net, helping Liverpool extend their lead to 3-1.

Liverpool ultimately defeated Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 at Anfield, advancing to the next round.

Liverpool midfielder McAllister said: "I think we deserved the win. Although we didn't play very well in the last 20 to 25 minutes, we were facing a very good team that knew exactly how to control the ball."

“Their intensity was very high, and we tried to stay aggressive. I think we defended quite well, and then we scored, which was very important.”

McAllister shared, "We've been practicing shooting a lot, and Szoboszlai's shooting is natural. As for my goal, I had a bit of luck. Scoring goals is very important for our confidence, and so is winning, because that's exactly the result we wanted."
