Tottenham Hotspur's Mali international defensive midfielder Yves Bissouma officially joins Ajax on a free transfer..

Ajax announced on their official website on Wednesday that Tottenham Hotspur's Mali international defensive midfielder Yves Bissouma has joined the club on a free transfer.

According to the Eredivisie giants' official statement, Bissouma has signed on a short-term one-year deal with the club which will only run until the summer of 2027. He will wear the number 28 jersey.

About Yves Bissouma

The 30-year-old Yves Bissouma was born on August 30, 1996, in Issia, Ivory Coast. He is 1.82 meters tall and plays as a defensive midfielder. He holds dual citizenship of Ivory Coast and Mali.

Bissouma joined the youth academy of Malian club Real Bamako at a young age before moving to Lille's youth academy in 2016, before completing his Lille first-team debut that September.

In July 2018, Bissouma joined Brighton for a fee of £15 million.

During his four-year spell with the Seagulls, Bissouma's outstanding performances attracted the attention of the Premier League's "Big Six" clubs.

In the summer of 2022, Bissouma moved to Tottenham Hotspur for £20 million.

However, since joining Spurs, he has faced severe criticism regarding disciplinary issues stemming from a chaotic personal life, including frequenting nightclubs, alcohol abuse, violent behaviour, drug use, habitual lateness, and poor performances.

During his four-year tenure at the Spurs, Bissouma made 111 appearances for the Premier League powerhouse across all competitions, scored two goals and won the UEFA Europa League title once.
