◤Carabao Cup,◢ Dominik Szoboszlai scores stunning wonder goal as Liverpool comprehensively defeats Tottenham Hotspur by 3-1..

Liverpool secured a convincing 3-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Tuesday in the third round of the 2026/27 Carabao Cup.

In the first half, Mac Allister found the net with a powerful strike. After the break, Gakpo continued his red-hot form since the start of the season by volleying the ball into the net, while Gallagher also found the net with a header. The decisive moment came when Dominik Szoboszlai unleashed a spectacular long-range strike from 40 yards out. Ultimately, Liverpool returned to winning ways with a 3-1 triumph over Spurs.

First Half

In the 11th minute, Destiny Udogie passes horizontally from the byline at the left side of the box. Lucas Bergvall quick followed up and upon receiving the pass, volleyed with his left foot from the center of the box, but his shot was blocked by Giorgi Mamardashvili's outstretched leg.

4 minutes later, Rio Ngumoha played a through-ball from the right wing. After successfully beating the offside trap, Lewis Koumas got the ball and took a few steps before volleying with his right foot from the right side of the box against the outrushing Martin Dúbravka, but his shot was blocked by the latter's outstretched leg.

In the 21st minute, Ngumoha passes horizontally from the right side of the box. Alexis Mac Allister quickly followed up and upon receiving the pass, volleyed the ball with his right foot from the center of the box that flew into the top right corner of the net, which Dúbravka had no time to react! Liverpool broke the deadlock first to take a 1-0 lead!

12 minutes later, Udogie sent a crossed from the left side of the box. Mohammed Kudus quickly followed up and upon receiving the ball, attempted a left-footed half-volley from the center of the box, but his shot sailed high over the bar.

In the 39th minute, Koumas passes horizontally from the byline at the right side the box, but Mac Allister missed a shooting opportunity as he was moving too fast and failed to control the ball. 

At halftime, Liverpool temporarily held a 1-0 lead over Tottenham Hotspur.

Second Half

Both teams switched sides as the match continued. In the 54th minute, Mac Allister played a through ball from the left wing. Cody Gakpo stopped the ball and adjusted his angles before volleying the ball which sailed straight into the top right corner of the net with his right foot from the leff side of the box that left Dúbravka with no chance of saving it! Liverpool extended their lead to 2-0! This is the Netherlands international forward's sixth goal contribution in his last five matches!

5 minutes later, Omar Marmoush passes horizontally from the left wing. Upon receiving the pass, Kudus volleyed with his right foot  from the center of the box, but his shot was saved by Mamardashvili.

In the 69th minute, Spurs earned a deadly corner kick opportunity. Mateus Fernandes took the corner by crossing it into the box, where Conor Gallagher rose high and scored with a header, pulling a goal back for Tottenham Hotspur to make it 2-1! Spurs finally broke their goal drought since the start of the season!

In the 85th minute, Spurs earned a deadly quick counter-attack. Gakpo made a clearance error in his own back half. Omar Marmoush intercepted the ball, dribled and cuts into the left side of the box before volleying with his right foot, but his shot was saved by Mamardashvili.

6 minutes later, Gakpo passes horizontally from the front. Dominik Szoboszlai stopped the ball before taking a left-footed long shot from 40 yards out. The ball flew straight into the top right corner, turning it into a spectacular strike that left Dúbravka helpless! Liverpool sealed the victory at 3-1!

When the final whistle is blown, Liverpool had secured a 3-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
