Watford have officially announced the signing of Mikael Antonio, who joined the team as a free agent.

Watford have officially announced the signing of Mikael Antonio, the experienced striker who will now officially join the team. The 36-year-old Antonio joins as a free agent and will contribute his years of experience to the squad. He has played in European competitions and boasts extensive playing time in the Premier League and Championship.  

Manager Alessio Dionissi expects Antonio to bring his extensive experience accumulated over the years to the team, not only contributing on the field but also helping young players develop through daily training and off-field interactions. Furthermore, his professional background is expected to provide further support for the team's future development and the coaching staff. Currently, Watford boasts one of the youngest starting lineups in the Championship.  

In an interview with Watford's official website, Mikael Antonio spoke about his feelings after joining the team, saying: "The team has a group of very good players who are currently very focused and ready to prove themselves in the new season. Watford is a club with a rich history, and I hope that my arrival can help the team achieve better results and make a contribution to the team as much as possible."  

“I have scored some goals against Watford before, so I hope that after I put on the Watford shirt this time and fully recover my physical and competitive condition, I can continue to contribute to the attack and score goals for the team.”  

Mikael Antonio has reached a 12-month agreement with Watford. The club is currently awaiting approval of the relevant international transfer formalities, after which he will have the opportunity to be included in the matchday squad and make his debut in the home game against Stoke City. Antonio's last competitive appearance for an England team is not until December 2024, but the experienced striker is ready to return to the pitch earlier and hopes to quickly integrate into the team, contribute to the game, and assist the manager.
