Fenerbahce coach Carta resigns, but the president strongly rejects the offer.

In a key Champions League match on Thursday, Turkish giants Fenerbahce held Italian powerhouse Roma to a 1-1 draw at home, marking their first Champions League group stage game since the 2008-09 season.

However, Fenerbahce coach Ismail Carta suddenly announced his resignation at the post-match press conference, causing a huge uproar. Subsequently, club president Aziz Yildirim stepped in and vetoed the decision on the spot.

In the 39th minute, Roma took the lead with a long-range shot from Cristante. In the 48th minute of the second half, Fenerbahce's left-back Archie Brown cleverly chipped the ball into the net to equalize.

After the match, Calta, who had just started his fourth stint as manager in June, made a surprising statement at the press conference: "I have decided to step down tonight. I made this decision to make way for the club, and I will never look back after I resign."

Calta praised the players' performance, believing the team had a chance to win, but insisted that his departure was to help the team and the players.

This sudden statement caught the club's management off guard. Minutes later, club president Yildirim quickly appeared in the media area and forcefully rejected the resignation: "Ismail Carta remains the team's head coach, and the club must support him. As long as I am president, he is Fenerbahce's head coach."

In a subsequent interview, Yildirim stated bluntly: "He didn't need to say whether he would stay or not. I was his superior, and I told him he had to continue, and that was the end of it."
