◤UEFA Champions League - League Phase◢ Alexis Mac Allister scored a wonder goal as Liverpool came from behind to defeat Atlético Madrid by 2–1..

Liverpool secured a 2-1 comeback victory over Atlético Madrid at Anfield on Wednesday in their opening match of the 2026/27 UEFA Champions League league phase match.

In the first half, Llorente scored by chipping the ball over the goalkeeper from long-range, while Szoboszlai found the net on the rebound. In the second half, Barcola saw a shot drift just slightly wide of the post before Mac Allister scored with a spectacular long-range strike. Ultimately, Liverpool defeated Atlético Madrid 2-1 with a comeback win. Following this match, their fifth consecutive win against Spanish opposition—the Reds currently sit in ninth place with three points, while Los Colchoneros are currently 28th with zero points.

First Half

In the 17th minute, Julián Álvarez delivered a low diagonal through ball from near the midfield center circle. After beating the offside trap, Marcos Llorente quickly followed up, got the ball and took a few steps before chipping the ball past the outrushing Alisson from just outside the penalty area which flew straight into the open net. Atlético Madrid broke the deadlock early to take a 1-0 lead; this marked Llorente's fifth consecutive goal at Anfield!

10 minutes later, Álex Baena played horizontally pass from the left wing. Julián Álvarez stopped the ball and adjusted his angles before taking a right-footed long shot from outside of the penalty area, but his shot was spectacularly saved by Alisson.

In the 40th minute, Ronald Araújo played a back-heeled pass from the right side of the box. Dominik Szoboszlai got the ball and took a few steps before volleying the ball into the bottom left corner with his right foot from the center of the box, equalizing for Liverpool at 1-1!

The first half concluded with the score tied at 1-1 as the Liverpool and Atlético Madrid headed into the break. 

Second Half

Both teams switched sides as the match continued. In the 49th minute, Florian Wirtz delivered a diagonal through pass from near the midfield center circle. After beating the offside trap, Bradley Barcola quickly followed up, got the ball and dribbled into the center of the box before volleying with his right foot. but his shot somehow went just slightly wide of the bottom left corner of the post. Barcola missed a golden opportunity to score on his Champions League debut at Liverpool!

Shortly after, Rio Ngumoha dribbled and cuts into the left side of the box before volleying with his right foot, His shot was initially blocked off not far away by Marc Pubill and Baena. Upon picking up the loose ball, Alexis Mac Allister took a left-footed long shot from just outside the penalty area. His shot flew straight into the bottom left corner of the net, which turned into a wondergoal that that left Oblak helpless and putting Liverpool 2–1 ahead of Atléti!

In the 69th minute, Giuliano Simeone played a pass back from the right side of the box; Upon receiving the pass, Álvarez volleyed with his right foot, but his shot was saved by Alisson.

When the final whistle is blown, Liverpool came from behind to defeat Atlético Madrid by 2–1.
