The Lakers announced that the Phil Jackson statue will be unveiled in April 2027.

September 9th - The Los Angeles Lakers announced that the team will unveil a statue of Hall of Fame coach Phil Jackson next season to honor his illustrious achievements during his time coaching in Los Angeles.

The statue will be unveiled on April 9 , 2027 , before the Lakers' home game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Lakers acting owner Jeanie Buss stated: " Phil Jackson defined championship basketball. His masterful coaching allowed some of the greatest players of all time to reach their full potential. After accepting my father's invitation to join the Lakers, his unparalleled creativity and relentless pursuit of excellence helped the team revitalize its championship tradition, bringing five NBA titles and setting a benchmark for future generations. "

The 80- year -old Jackson coached the Lakers twice, for a total of 11 seasons ( 1999-2004 , 2005-2011 ). He coached the team with his signature triangle offense system, building around Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal in the first three championships , and later teaming up with Kobe and Pau Gasol to win back-to-back championships in 2009 and 2010 .

Jackson led the Lakers to seven NBA Finals appearances and won five championships, including a three-peat from 2000 to 2002 and two consecutive championships in 2009 and 2010 .

Jackson was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007 and was named one of the 15 greatest coaches in NBA history on the 75th anniversary of the league.
