Iñigo Perez: I think the players played well today, but the final score was indeed disappointing.

Villarreal manager Iñigo Pérez spoke to the media after the Champions League opener against Borussia Dortmund. Villarreal ultimately lost 2-3 to the home team at Signal Iduna Park, failing to secure any points. For Pérez, the result did not accurately reflect the team's performance on the field.  

While Iñigo Perez acknowledged the team's competitive form against the German side, he was still disappointed at failing to achieve the desired result. He said, "I think the players played quite well overall today, but the final score is indeed disappointing. We saw many commendable aspects during the game, but we need to improve our conversion rate and better convert the scoring opportunities we create into goals. In addition, our defense also needs further improvement, as we conceded three goals again today."  

"Considering our current situation, the opponent we are facing, and the atmosphere at the stadium, this is undoubtedly a very challenging match. I am proud of the attitude and approach the team has shown in the game, but we still cannot stop here and need to continue to improve in all aspects."  

Based on the team's current performance, Villarreal coach Iñigo Pérez emphasized that the team needs to maintain its growth momentum and carefully analyze the problems exposed in the matches. He also affirmed the team's positive performance at the highest level of European competition. He stated, "This result is indeed disappointing because the team consistently adhered to the pre-match strategy but failed to achieve a result commensurate with their performance. However, I still believe that we are on the right track. We must persevere and continue along this path."
