Wolverhampton Wanderers' South Korea international forward Hwang Hee-chan officially joins Schalke on-loan..

Schalke announced on their official website on Monday that Wolverhampton Wanderers' South Korea international forward Hwang Hee-chan has joined the club on-loan.

According to the newly promoted Bundesliga side's official statement, Hwang will play for the club on-loan until the end of the season; the agreement does not include an option to buy. He will wear the number 7 shirt.

After completing his transfer, Hwang, who was interviewed by the Schalke official website for the first time, said: "Schalke's performance last season left a deep impression on me. I have studied their tactical style in depth, and I believe I am a great fit for this team."

"I played at this stadium with RB Leipzig in 2021, though unfortunately, there were no spectators present at the time. I can't wait to experience the atmosphere firsthand in a packed stadium as a Schalke player."

About Hwang Hee-chan

The 30-year-old Hwang Hee-chan was born on January 26, 1996 in Chuncheon City, Gangwon Province, South Korea. He is 1.77 meters tall and primarily plays a center forward but can also play as a winger.

Hwang played for the Pohang Steelers youth academy as a child, during which he won the 21st Cha Bum-kun Football Award and the Adidas Youth Football Championship. In December 2014, he joined the Red Bull Salzburg youth academy.

In January of the following year, Hwang was loaned-out to its satellite team Liefering for further development.

 After returning to the club following his loan spell in the summer of 2016, Hwang completed his Red Bull Salzburg first-team debut by coming on as a substitute in a Europa League match in November of the same year.

During his four-year spell at Red Bull Salzburg, Hwang won the Austrian Bundesliga title twice and the Austrian Cup three times with the club. He also played for Hamburg on-loan in the 2018/19 season.

In July 2020, Hwang moved to Red Bull Salzburg's sister team, RB Leipzig, for €9 million.

While playing for RB Leipzig, Hwang's performances were not too outstanding, but he still reached the DFB-Pokal final with the team once.

In August of the following year, Hwang Hee-chan joined Wolverhampton Wanderers on-loan with an obligation to buy. 

Later, Wolves triggered his buyout clause for £14.3 million in July 2023.

Since becoming a member of Wolves, Hwang has so far made 150 appearances in all competitions for the EFL Championship club, scoring 27 goals and providing 12 assists.
