The Atlanta Hawks have a history of outstanding rim protectors. From Terry Rollins to Dikembe Mutombo to Josh Smith , these players have all left a lasting impression on the defensive end. Here are the Hawks' top five all-time leading shot blockers:
1. Terry Rollins ( 2283 blocks)
In the 1977 NBA Draft, the Atlanta Hawks selected Rollins with the 14th overall pick in the first round. His real name was Wayne Monte Rollins . He played 11 of his 18 -year professional careers for Atlanta, appearing in 814 games and averaging 7.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks per game. In the 1982-83 season, he led the league in blocks per game with 4.3 and was named to the All-Defensive Second Team. The following year, he averaged 3.6 blocks per game and was named to the All-Defensive First Team.
2. Josh Smith ( 1440 blocks)
The Atlanta Hawks selected Smith with the 17th overall pick in the 2004 NBA draft , a player who went straight to the NBA after high school . In his first nine seasons with the team, he averaged 15.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game. In the 2006-07 season, he averaged a career-high 2.9 blocks per game and was named to the All-Defensive Second Team in the 2009-10 season.
3. Dikembe Mutombo ( 1094 blocks)
Dikembe Mutombo joined the Hawks in 1996 and within just four and a half seasons, he ranked among the top three on the franchise's all-time blocks list. He played 343 games for the team, averaging 11.9 points, 12.6 rebounds, and 3.2 blocks per game. During his time with the Hawks, he won the rebounding title twice and the Defensive Player of the Year award three times.
4. Jon Concord ( 747 blocks)
The Atlanta Hawks selected Conkak with the 5th overall pick in the 1985 NBA Draft . The center played 10 seasons for the team , appearing in 717 games and averaging 4.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks per game. His career-best season was 1.5 blocks per game in the 1993-94 season .
5. Dan Longfield ( 716 blocks)
Longfield joined the Hawks in the 1978-79 season and played for them for six years. He appeared in 435 games for the team, averaging 17.6 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game. During his time with the Hawks, he was a three-time All-Star and a five-time All-Defensive Team selection.
