Serie A – Sule scores and assists as Roma defeats Atalanta 2-1 in a dramatic victory.

In the third round of the 2026/27 Serie A season, Roma came from behind to defeat Atalanta at home. They currently have 9 points, the same as Inter Milan, but top the table on goal difference.

Atalanta's record is now 2 wins and 1 loss, and they are currently ranked seventh in Serie A with 6 points.

After the start of the first half, Roma quickly took control of the game. In the 14th minute, Rodrigo Mora crossed from the left side of the penalty area, and Gianluca Mancini's header was saved by Marco Carnesechi. In the 21st minute, Wesley Franza crossed from the right, and Bryan Cristante's header in the penalty area was also saved. In the 22nd minute, Mancini turned and attempted a cross-shot in the center of the penalty area, and Evan Ndica's follow-up goal was ruled offside.

In the 32nd minute, Charles de Ceftrare passed the ball diagonally into the penalty area, and Gianluca Scamaka's first shot on target was blocked by Miller Svilal. In the 34th minute, Mario Hermoso delivered a lobbed pass from the left wing at a 45-degree angle, and Paulo Dybala's header was caught by Carneseki. In the 40th minute, Wesley played a through ball from the edge of the penalty area, and Donyell Malen dribbled past two players before his low shot was blocked by Carneseki's outstretched leg.

At the start of the second half, the situation on the field changed dramatically. In the 47th minute, De Ceftrare's cross from the left side of the penalty area was blocked by Ndicka, but Ederson followed up and scored to give Atalanta the lead. In the 59th minute, De Ceftrare's long pass found Nikola Krstovic in the attacking third, whose low shot went just wide of the post.

As the game progressed, Roma gradually stabilized and launched a counter-attack. In the 62nd minute, Matthias Sule unleashed a volley from the edge of the box, but it was saved by Carnesechi. In the 64th minute, Wesley delivered a diagonal pass from the left, and Santiago Castro cut inside and fired a powerful shot that struck the left post. In the 71st minute, Wesley continued to cross from the left, and Sule's header inside the box was again denied.

In the 88th minute, Navel Molina crossed from the right, and Castro's header hit the crossbar. In the 89th minute, Dybala and Castro exchanged short passes before Dybala unleashed a shot, which was brilliantly saved by Carnesecchi. Immediately afterwards, Sule took a corner from the left, and Hermoso headed it in to equalize for Roma.

In the third minute of second-half stoppage time, Dybala passed the ball to the right wing, and Sulei cut inside the penalty area before firing a low shot into the net to seal the victory. At the final whistle, Roma defeated Atalanta 2-1.
