Wolves have officially signed Gillan Conan to a one-year contract.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have officially confirmed the signing of Ivory Coast international Guillán Konan. The two sides have reached a one-year contract agreement. The left-back will join Wolves after David Moeller Wolf's departure on transfer deadline day, bolstering the team's defensive line on the flanks. Notably, Konan will once again work alongside manager César Peschoto.  

The 30-year-old Guilan Conan has accumulated considerable experience in high-level leagues, having previously played in the top leagues of Portugal and France. At the national team level, he is also a key member of the Ivory Coast squad. Last summer, he participated in the North American World Cup, playing in three matches and helping the team reach the knockout stage.  

Early in his career, Guillán Konan played for Vitória in Portugal, where he made his way into the first team, making 57 official appearances. He then moved to France, joining Reims and playing for four seasons, accumulating 99 appearances, just shy of his 100th.  

In his national team career, Guilan Konan was a key member of Ivory Coast's 2023 Africa Cup of Nations victory. To date, he has participated in four major international football tournaments, most recently the North American World Cup last summer.  

Wolves manager Cesar Pesciotto said of Guillan Konan: "I am very pleased with his arrival. Guillan Konan is an outstanding player with considerable international experience. We worked together before when I was managing Gil Vicente, and it was a blessing for the team to have such a player."  

“I believe he can adapt to the demands of the game here because he has already proven his ability on the top stage. His addition also makes our squad more complete, and now we can have two competitive players in each position, which is exactly the kind of personnel I want for the team.”  

“My requirements for the team’s overall squad are the same, because the Championship schedule is very long and challenging, with 46 rounds of matches to be played throughout the season. We need to make sure we have enough good players on the bench so that we can make reasonable personnel adjustments according to different situations. If the team maintains healthy competition throughout the week of training, then on match day, we will be able to be competitive enough against any opponent.”  

“Since we worked together last year, he is familiar with my requirements, and his approach to the game is quite similar to my coaching philosophy, so rebuilding rapport won’t take too long. This will undoubtedly reduce the difficulty for him to integrate into the team. At the same time, he has strong physical attributes and good ability to compete, and I believe he will soon become an important player in the team’s lineup.”  

Wolves technical director Matt Jackson said: "As Cesar Peschoto mentioned before, Guilan Konan has outstanding personal qualities and a great passion for football. He not only has solid athletic ability but is also an experienced top international player. He impresses people with both his physical condition and his commitment to the game, so he is highly regarded within the club.
