Bayer Leverkusen officially announce the signing of Strasbourg's Ivorian international defender Guéla Doué..

Bayer Leverkusen announced on their official website on Wednesday that they have signed Strasbourg's Ivorian international defender Guéla Doué.

According to Leverkusen's official statement, Doué has signed a on a long-term five-year deal with the club which runs until the summer of 2031.

After completing his transfer procedures, Doué, who was interviewed by the Leverkusen official website for the first time, said: "I had a wonderful two years in Strasbourg, France. But now I want to move to the Bundesliga and join a club that impressed me during negotiations. This team is very talented, has many excellent players, and I am very much looking forward to playing with these lads."

About Guéla Doué

The 23-year-old Doué was born on October 17, 2002, in Angers, France. He is 1.86 meters tall and primarily plays as a right-back, but can also play as a center-back or defensive midfielder. He holds dual French and Ivorian citizenship. His younger brother, Désiré, is a Paris Saint-Germain and France international forward wonderkid, while his elder cousin, Yann Gboho, is Toulouse's forward. 

Doué joined Rennes' youth academy at the age of eight along with his younger brother, started playing for its reserve team in 2020, before completing his Rennes first-team by coming on as a substitute in the match against Strasbourg in February 2023.

The following July, Doué moved to Strasbourg for €6 million.

During his two-year spell at Strasbourg, Doué made 68 appearances for the Ligue 1 club in all competitions, scored 3 goals and provided 9 assists, where he helped the team reach the semi-finals of both the Coupe de France and the UEFA Conference League once each.
