Carrick believes that how one deals with setbacks is a key factor in determining success or failure.

Manchester United will host newly promoted Ipswich Town at Old Trafford in a key match of the second round of the 2026/27 Premier League season. Carrick stated that the team's success in the match largely depends on how they handle setbacks.

In the first round of the new Premier League season, Manchester United conceded two goals in the first half but were unable to change the score in the second half, ultimately suffering a shock 0-2 defeat to newly promoted Hull City.

As for Ipswich Town, whom they will face next, Gary O'Neill's team defeated Sunderland 2-1 in the last round of the Premier League and also successfully advanced in the English League Cup, so their overall morale is very high.
